Crooswijk has been facing a housing crisis for several decades as residents resist major infrastructure changes.

Our challenge was to explore: “How might we stimulate housing mobility by improving trust and participation between residents and the municipality?”

Introducing the CO System

Introducing the CO System

Co provides physical & digital spaces that facilitate a collaborative process between residents and their municipality. Through hands on methods, residents are empowered to communicate their ideas to allow housing developments to respond to the communities invisible needs.

During our 10 weeks research phase, much of this time was spent on the streets of Crooswijk. We conducted 40+ interviews, and lead 4 focus groups to discover the underlying causes of the housing crisis.

Research Question: Under what conditions do residents feel empowered to share profound, honest, and meaningful opinions on going plans related to their living situations?

Our Learnings: Residents responded better to open ended prompts and reported that the presence of a municipal representative during the process helped encouraged their participation.
